How to save a life.

Been working on some music tonight, which has been a trip.  It’s been months since I’ve played anything and I’m getting ready to get my piano back.  I was plodding out chords on my crappy acoustic guitar that has a bad E string.  Memorizing chord progressions for songs I want to learn, messing with the drums a bit…just a lot of fun.  I even pulled out my setlists and went through the music just remembering how songs go.  It’ll be interesting to see how dexterous I am and how long it’ll take me to limber up.  I’m not sure if …

Feeling pensive today…

I’m sitting here trying to figure out how to put my thoughts into words. It’s times like this that I can sit and write and play the piano for hours. Yearning coupled with confusion. It’s an odd mix…one that dances on the edge of reason. Probably the basis of some of the greatest songs produced. I’ll get my piano back next weekend, so maybe I due for some writing time. It’s purely a cathartic experience as I’ve never played most of the songs I’ve written. Maybe once I’m dead someone will come across my stuff and make a million bucks …

Living up to expectations.

I grew up in the shadow of a man that, to me, exemplified the essence of what a man should be. My Papa was an honest, dependable, loving man of integrity.  There was no one that could utter a foul word about my Grandfather in the state of Virginia without being contradicted.  He sacrificed his time and money for the good of those who needed his services without thought to ask for thanks.  When Vernon Lewis Dunn said something you knew it was solid fact.  He provided for his family was always willing to lend a hand, fix a TV …

Observations of Dreams.

When I dream I always dream vividly. I’m  aware that I’m in a dream most of the time. Waking myself up when I want to is possible. Usually I can change the direction of topic of a dream. I’ve only had a few nightmares in my life. Often times I re-visit the same “altered” locations in dreams. On several occasions dreamt things that have eventually happened in my life. I had some interesting dreams last night involving observations in the list above.  I’ve no idea what they meant, which is usually the case.  Sometimes events will unfold where a weird …

Confessions of a text-hater turned lover.

Everyone in my office loves their cellphones. Not because of the clear quality of the signal or the easy of use when making a telephone call, but for all the gadgets and gizmos on the phone. When I bought my phone I proudly declared “I’m getting my phone just to be a phone. I don’t care about the extras.” And in my mind it seemed to be the most logical course of action, and the most practical. I didn’t text, or surf the internet or need GPS….so a Razr seemed like a good choice for me. I’m here to confess …

It has begun.

I had a great workout today. Distraction and other things have stressed me out a little lately and I’ve been off track…40 mins of cardio and a shoulder, back and bicep weight session have totally kicked my ass and I’m loving it. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow. I’m planning on at least 30 mins of cardio a day every day and alternating days I’ll work on different sections of my bod. It’s AWESOME that the gym is at work, and makes it easy for me to go. I kind of felt like a wuss because I had to take …

Metamorphasis.

I’ve stopped smoking. Time to work on being happier. I figure if I can actually stop smoking that I can do anything. So I decided to take a small inventory of the things that were bugging me about me…and work on them until I was happy with the results. This is a bit dangerous, because I’m actually putting these things into print but if I apply the same forces I mustered to stop inhaling smoke it’ll be cake. I’m going to: Lose 30lbs. in the next 4-6 months. I need to get strong again anyway. Over the last 10 years …

How I watch movies.

I love movies. Good ones, bad ones, serious ones, funny ones, irreverent ones, formula ones. I break down movies into 3 major viewing categories, with subsets in each category. I’m going to only cover the 3 major categories in this post and I’ll try to give good examples of each. Knowing which category of movie I’m going to watch provides that extra entertainment value. Mindless Movies is the first category. Movies in this category would include such titles as “Transformers,” “Die Hard,” and “Sin City.” These movies provide a great escape and are easy to digest and spit out. They …
